THE PLACE

Coming down a sand track from Travancinha you find our quinta on an elevation in the valley. Our two main buildings are situated on the plateau.

PLATEAU

The original farmhouse has a first floor with our community kitchen, living room, 3 guest quarters and a shared bathroom.

We also have a veranda with a fabulous view.

On the top floor there is an apartment for guests, with kitchen, bathroom and a nice balcony.

The ground floor is temporarily in use as storage, and offers possibilities for renovating as: living quarters, workshop spaces, sauna, spa, dark room or….. whatever we decide.

Next to the farmhouse we have our vegetable garden, a greenhouse, a chicken house and a shady garden with more fruit trees. This area is now being transformed into our syntropic food forrest.

On the other side of the house, we have a rock swimming pool with a helophyte filter.

In the second building we have two apartments for residents and two studios for guests.

The ground floor is an open space (veranda) with an outdoor kitchen that provides shade during the warmer months and it is used for our markets and other events and gatherings.

From the veranda looking south we have a big meadow.

SLOPE

Going down towards river Seia there are terraces on both sides of the track. On one of these we dug swales and planted a lot of new trees after the 2022 fire.

On the borders of the river there are still quite a lot of trees. We built a building with 2 showers, 2 bathrooms and an outdoor kitchen, made out of cob. Nearby there is a tiny cob house and a safari tent. One of us has lived in the tent and is now building his own house. This is also a great area for campers and tents.

To protect the terrain from wildfires we have a big water storage tank and a web of fire hoses, donated by Dutch fire brigades. Of course in addition to a wetter and diverse forest area to add extra layers of protection.
